Examining the Role of Economic Actors in Post-war Reintegration Processes: Case of Sierra Leone
This paper examines the contribution of economic actors to Sierra Leone's post-war disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration process. Using content analysis, it explores how delayed and inadequate financing, weak coordination, limited vocational support and insufficient economic opportunities undermined the reintegration of former combatants and conflict-affected populations. It argues that reintegration cannot succeed through short-term assistance alone but requires sustained economic participation, employment opportunities and stronger local productive capacities. The paper calls for the systematic inclusion of private-sector and other economic actors in reintegration planning, linking durable peace to inclusive economic recovery and reduced dependence on external assistance.
